Barber Motorsports Park has set a new standard in North American motorsports facilities. Opened in January of 2003, the exquisite permanent circuit is 2.38-miles long with 17 turns. It is meticulously maintained with lush surroundings.
The facility houses one of the largest and most prestigious motoring museums in the world - the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum.
Legends of Motorsports is honored for its inaugural race weekend to be staged at this world-class facility. The event will feature eight of 13 Legends of Motorsports car classes including: Thunder and Lightning Production Cars, 2.0 Liter Sports Racers, IMSA/FIA GT, Trans-Am, Can/Am, Historic Grand Prix, Formula Libre, and Classic Monoposto.
Joining Legends of Motorsports for its inaugural event is the great Mario Andretti, the only driver to ever win the Indianapolis 500 (1969), Daytona 500 (1967) and Formula One World Championship (1978). Through his storied racing career, which includes sportscars, open-wheel, stock car and dirt track racing, Andretti has amassed 111 career wins on major circuits.
The weekend's feature marque and race will be Britain's legendary Lotus brand, which powered Andretti to Formula One glory. The event also includes a Road Rally on Thursday evening, May 20, ending at Mountain Brook Village. The weekend is highlighted by an elegant dinner to be held at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum on Saturday, May 22, where Andretti will be received as the guest of honor. There will be a host of other associated automotive lifestyle events announced in the coming weeks.
